Today’s Picnic: 5 nicknacks
Hello again! It’s been a long time since I wrote a tutorial about Windows Registry. Well today I’m not going to write about Windows Registry, because I haven’t found something fresher. And I’m busy working on my Titled Puzzle. And tommorow, RPK (Remaja Pantekosta Ketapang) have a youth camp until Saturday, so I can’t write for two days (yes I hope I can write about the youth camp Saturday night). Can’t wait until tomorrow, to see more souls saved!
So this is my last post today, I hope I don’t faint when I’m home Saturday night. Enjoy today’s nicknacks!
BTW, just an info for BackTrack lovers, Remote Exploit has released BackTrack 3 Final! Check out their site!
1. The New Mountain Firefox
You should know that Mozilla has released Firefox 3.0 Final (codename: Gran Paradiso). And during the download day, Mozilla Firefox 3 has made a new record for most download in 24 hours. it broke over 8 million hits! The target was just five million, in fact, there are more, more than they expect. You can read it all over here. And see the details here: http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord. In one of PC World’s Article, Jonny Evans from Macworld.co.uk reports that overall Firefox 3 download hits 11.7 million! WOW!
If you han’t know the features within, I’ll show you some:
- Animated PNG
And so for other new browsers. Check out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animated_PNG
Here are the samples of it:
The Throbber
The classic cute Mozilla Mascot
The fox is spinning over the Deer Park Globe
- Auto Complete
Yes, Mozilla has made this auto complete feature, that will search what you type in the address bar, from the page title and the page URL.
See much more new features of Mozilla including the interface features, security, productivity, customization, tabs, universal access, and performance all here and here!
2. Firefox 3.0 New Easter Egg
You all may know the old easter egg from Netscape and Gecko-based browsers, “The Book Of Mozilla“. But there is a new easter egg back from Gran Paradiso beta 4. It’s called: about:robots
Try to access “about:robots” (without quotes). You’ll notice a “robot language”, “Gort! Klaatu barada nikto”. It’s a phrase taken from a Cold War era (1951) Sci-Fi movie, “The Day The Earth Stood Still”. See the references here (Wikipedia, for the film), here (Wikipedia, for the phrase), and here (bugzilla topic).

3. Send file with the command “paste” through Yahoo! and Windows Live Messenger
You may know this trick a long time ago. Me too. You can just find the file you want to send to your chat mate through messenger, with the “famous” Windows Explorer. Copy the file. Then, open a conversation window, then just press Ctrl+V. Pretty simple. I found this when I have trouble sending files with Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 Beta.
I haven’t tested this for other messenger program like Pidgin or Trillian. But I know that meebo can’t. I haven’t tested from Linux (I have Ubuntu), and Macintosh (Leopard). But if you can, just comment here and say you can do it
4. Other Snacks and Easter Eggs from Microsoft
Yeah it’s an old story. Just see it here. It’s in Indonesian. No time to translate it to English, sorry.
5. rm -rf
It’s old. Yeah I know that. But just for curious users. What happens if you insert just “rm -rf /” in either Linux or Macintosh terminal?
It’ll be like this:
http://www.fsckin.com/2007/10/31/what-happens-when-you-run-rm-rf/ will explain what happens.
rm is a remove command. -rf stands for recursive force. / means root directory. Means, all files mounted will be deleted. He added -v to show what’s happening and it’s so interesting to see it.
Want to try it? Do it from your virtual box or just do it from a limited access user, with “super user do” (sudo)
(just kidding).
…zzz …zzzZZzzz… …zzzzm…ha? No I’m not that “smart”
If you want to do it in Windows, just….: cd\ | del /F /S
Not the same action, but still interesting
Hah, I’m done. Plan to write 10, but I have no time. Sorry. But, I hope you enjoy this one.
But I’ll give you today’s fun fact instead:
Firefox Fun Fact
1. The Book Of Mozilla
http://www.mozilla.org/book/ < -- 4 of them. But you know where to find more right? :)
2. Maybe this is the biggest logo of Firefox in the world! Just maybe!!
http://www.maybethisisthebiggestlogooffirefoxintheworld.cn/default.html < -- an insanely gigantic size (4500x4330px) of the Firefox logo in PNG. The best detail you can get.
