Microsoft Windows Tweaks - Part II

Hey there, it’s me again! In Microsoft Windows Tweaks Part II. OK this tweaks is originally, I found it myself. If you found this from other site, it’s usual, because it’s the only entries provided by Microsoft! Because now I’m too lazy, I’ll not embedding pictures :( but don’t worry I’ll add much information as possible. The next part, I’ll minimalize more as you’ve got an introduction for regedit in part I. Sorry :D This is a bunch of tips only. You can find more of mine from Google :P

Notifier for Newly Installed Application
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Entry: Start_NotifyNewApps
Type: REG_DWORD

Starting from Windows XP, you’ll notice a tooltip “New Program Installed” each time you’ve finished a software’s installation. This tutorial will deactivate it. Just double click the damn entry, and change the value to 0. If you want to activate it again, just edit it back to 0.

Empty Most Recently Used Run List.
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU
Value Type: REG_SZ

If you click Start > Run, if you click the drop-down menu, you’ll noticed lists of programs, right? Well maybe not :D Those are the MRU. They are all stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU. So just open this key and empty it. Delete all the entries. Or if you’re only intend to edit it, double-click an entry, edit all except “\1″.

Change Default Folder for Wallpaper Copy
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Wallpapers\Images
Value Type: Reg_SZ

If you set a wallpaper with a file outside My Documents and %WINDOWS% folder, Windows will copy it to a folder (the default is C:\Users\CalvinLimuel\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery in Vista. In XP it’s C:\Documents and Settings\CalvinLimuel\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery, or sort of). And save it as Windows Photo Gallery Wallpaper.jpg in Vista. To change the default folder, just edit “0″ entry and change it with what your hearts desire (huh am I a poet).

Incoming… :D cling for the next part (???).
